Having straight and properly aligned teeth will enable you to be proud of your smile and feel better about yourself. It will also allow you to enjoy better oral health. As such, if you have an underbite or overbite problem, an open bite, and crooked and gapped teeth, you need to know about the different suitable orthodontic treatment options and choose the best treatment as soon as possible.
One of the orthodontic treatments at Laurich Dentistry we will discuss with you to have straighter, aligned teeth are Invisalign®. Invisalign® aligners are invisible, removable teeth straightening and aligning appliances which can correct different types of dental problems.
If you want to know if Invisalign® is the best treatment option for your orthodontic issue, make sure you know the ins and outs of this dental appliance. You can start by making a list of the right questions to ask about Invisalign®.
How does the treatment work?
If you choose Invisalign®, one of our Laurich dentists will take photographs, X-rays, and impressions of your teeth and send them off to Align Technology. They will then create a series of custom-made trays called aligners that you wear over your teeth.
Your dentist or orthodontist and Align Technology will use a special type of software to predict the movement of your teeth. Every two weeks, the aligner trays will be replaced until you get the smile you’re looking for.
How long will the treatment last?
Treatment duration will depend on the type and severity of your dental issue. If you wear the trays for at least 20 to 22 hours every day, treatment can take about 12 to 18 months. It can even be shorter if the dental flaw is minor and in such cases, you can take part in the Invisalign® Express program where treatment can be completed in as little as 20 weeks.
How much does the treatment cost and are there payment options?
The overall cost of getting Invisalign® will be directly related to the treatment duration. They typically range from $3,500 to $8,500 total. However, if you’re on the Invisalign® Express program, the total cost will be lower.
Ask our Laurich Dentistry team if we can work with your dental insurance as well. You can also ask your dental practitioner if they offer flexible, low to no interest financing so that you won’t be encumbered with huge payments.
Does it affect one’s diet and speech?
When you have invisible aligners, you don’t have to drastically change your diet. This is because you can remove the trays whenever you eat. However, your dental practitioner will advise that you avoid drinking dark colored beverages such as coffee and wine while wearing the trays since the beverages can stain them.
You can also take off your aligners whenever you have to talk in front of a large crowd so that you can speak more comfortably. As such, invisible aligners will not affect your speech.
What happens after the treatment?
Once the treatment is complete, we will ask you to continue wearing the retainer to maintain your newly straightened teeth. Over time, your dental specialist will instruct you to start wearing it less and less and, eventually, completely stop using it.
